Why Some People Don’t Get GEDs

Surprisingly enough a lot of people who have dropped out of school never go back to get their GED. There are a vast majority of reasons for this and it varies from person to person but there are a couple of reasons that seem to be fairly prevalent among all people in need of GEDs.

One of the reasons I found that people do not get a GED is because they feel as though they do not need one, they think they are living a good life as it is. A good majority of these people are doing something illegal in order to make a living because they have no other options job wise which is a shame because with a GED they would have more opportunity to get actual work. These are the type of people who usually end up behind bars or worse, and are not living as good a life as they let people on to believe they are. There are those however that have actual good jobs and can support themselves without the need of a GED and have worked hard for their position and are living good lives, but even these people could do better with a GED, a GED commands more money from companies in most situations and with a GED they could have extra money to spend on whatever they like or to further their life further than it already is.

Other reasons why some people do not get GEDs are because they physically cannot, this can be for many reasons but one example could be in the case of a teenage parent. If they have to take care of a child and themselves then they will need a job and lots of time to spend with their children. This leaves no time left over to get a GED even if they wanted to.

Another reason, one that is probably the worst of all, is because they just never get around to it. They have nothing physically stopping them from getting their GED and know they could benefit from gaining one, but they still never go to actually get one. They live and live perhaps saying they will get a GED someday and before you know it they are older and realize that getting a GED now will not have as big an impact on their life as it could have when they were younger, and then they just give up all together. I feel that actions such as those simply waste the opportunity given by the government for those who need a second chance at graduating high school, not everyone can make it through the first time but when you do not have respect for yourself to try and get a GED when you have no reason not to I just find it sad. If that option was not available to people there would be major complaints but yet there are people who waste such a chance, but in the end everyone has to live their own life. Those are just some of the reasons people do not get GEDs, there are more infinitely more, but we would be here forever if I explained them all.
