What Is A High School Equivalency Diploma
What Is A High School Equivalency Diploma?
A High School Equivalency Diploma is basically a real high school diploma that you got from taking an online course and studying the General Education Diploma program. However, instead of saying that you have a GED on a job application, you can actually say that you have a high school diploma.
Why the difference? Simply because some employers and colleges look down on those who have a GED instead of a high school diploma. Even though they are basically the same thing and a person who strives for their GED actually makes an extra effort to earn this document (as opposed to the student who just shows up every day in high school and barely gets by), some employers see a GED as a problem. They want to know why someone did not complete high school in the standard way.
There are many reasons why people do not complete high school. Some people do not learn well in a classroom setting. Others have family obligations that cause them to have to drop out and take a full time job. Some get into trouble in high school with other students and are asked to leave. As schools are not obligated to educate anyone after the age of 18, they may not have the money to pay for alternate education.
Even more disturbing is the fact that some students actually leave school because of bullying or threats of violence. In some schools, guns, drugs and gangs run the school as the administration stands helpless. These students, in an effort to keep themselves safe, choose to leave school.
Pursuing a GED usually entails classes at night and taking a state mandated test. However, you can do the same thing and get an actual high school equivalency diploma by studying online. As many people who leave high school, for one reason or another, go to work at a full time job, many find it difficult to get their GED and also stay at their full time job. For this reason, it makes more sense for them to study online and get their degree.
Your high school equivalency diploma can open up a lot of doors that may currently be closed to you at the moment. It is better than a GED because it will not only look better on your resume, but you will be presented with a real high school diploma and be able to obtain it from the comfort of your own home while studying online. While you cannot obtain a GED unless you take off line classes, the high school equivalency diploma is easy to obtain while studying online. You can then have more opportunities for employment as well as to continue your education in college.
If you think that your circumstances prevent you from getting your high school diploma because you do not have the time to attend GED classes, think again. Consider getting a high school equivalency diploma that will enable you to have the same benefits as anyone else who graduates from high school. And best of all, you can learn at your own pace, online, from the comfort of your own home.
