Life after Attaining a GED
Life after Attaining a GED
You have your GED, good job. It is not over yet however, once you have done all of the hard work it took to get your GED you have to decide your next step and it can take just as much hard work, and time, as getting a GED did. It can also be just as frustrating. If you stick with it though you will hopefully begin to appreciate your GED since it will help you a lot.
One of your options after getting your GED is to continue your education at a college. Apply to colleges you like and those you feel you can get into. When applying to colleges make sure you are not applying to places that are unattainable, as it stands you probably want to waste as little time as you possibly can and so applying to places that you can realistically be accepted to are best. If you do not you may find yourself simply wasting your time. So long as your GED Test scores are fairly good and you look around there is bound to be a college to your liking that also likes you. Make sure you pick a college you actually like also, since you will be spending your hard earned money on classes there, you do not want to pick a college that you will hate for two, four, or more years depending on how far you plan on going for a degree. Speaking of spending money you may not have to, at least not immediately, not if you apply for financial aid. With financial aid you can get money to use for school and it can make your financial load lighter than it would have been without it. Once you have been accepted to a college it is time to put in the hard work and studying that got you your GED and to where you are now, and in a few years you may have yourself a degree.
Your other option after getting a GED is to go out and look for a job. This can be even harder than looking for a college to get into. First think about what you want to do, what you are good at and then look for jobs like that or jobs that are similar. Once you have found something you like apply to that job and hope for a favorable reply. Actually that is usually the only kind of reply you will get since if you are not what the employer is looking for you will usually not be contacted at all. If you are contacted however there is a good chance they will ask you to come in for an interview, this is your time to impress them and their time to try and find any false information on you that they can, so do not put things on your resume that you cannot live up to. One example being saying you are fluent in a certain language if you are not, if you come into an interview and the interviewer starts talking to you in that language and you cannot respond, then they know right from the start that you are untrustworthy, and you may not get that second call once the interview is done.
Whatever you decide to do after getting a GED make sure you do your best at it, just like you did when you got your GED, if you do that then you should be fine.
