Getting A High School Equivalency Diploma Instead of a GED
Getting A High School Equivalency Diploma Instead of a GED
If you have left school early and need to complete your high school education, you have two choices. You can either apply to the state where you live to get your GED or you can get a high school equivalency diploma. These are the options. Once you are 18 years old, the state has no obligation to educate you any longer. However, they do want to see you graduate high school as high school graduates tend to do better on the job market than those without a high school education.
If you get your GED, you will have to attend off campus classes, usually at night. You have to apply for a GED program, pay a fee for the program and study. They will prepare you for your GED. Once you have completed the program, you then have a certain amount of time before you can take your GED. You have to take it in a certain amount of time from when you complete the program or else you have to re-take the GED course.
You cannot take the GED test online. You have to take it at a state facility. It is held a few times a year and you have to sign up well ahead of time. You then pay another fee to take the test. It is usually held on a Saturday.
To the contrary, the high school equivalency test for adults allows you to brush up, if you want, on certain parts of the test. Just like the GED, it is broken down into categories like math, science, reading, English, etc. You have to take a test on each part.
Unlike the GED, you can do this on the computer from home. All of your work, including the test can be done online. This makes it a lot more convenient than getting the GED. The test is basically the same as the GED and holds the same water as this well known test.
On your job application, you do not have to put down that you earned a GED. You can state that you earned a high school diploma from the accredited school where you earned your high school equivalency diploma. Many young students are using these type of schools as an alternate to going to regular high school. Schools that offer a high school equivalency diploma have to be accredited by the federal government.
Once you have received your highs school equivalency diploma it will be like the GED. You will have officially finished high school. You can then expect to be able to attain better jobs with more pay and more opportunity for advancement than you could if you did not have a high school education.
Whether you choose to get a GED or a high school equivalency diploma, it is important that you finish high school so that you do not subject yourself to working hard and menial jobs for the rest of your life. If you have not completed high school, sign up to get your high school equivalency diploma right away.
