GED Why to take it
The GED (General Education Development) is a five part subject test that covers the core subjects that are studied in traditional high school settings. The GED is for adult students who for some reason were not able to complete high school. The only requirements for seeking your GED are that you do not have a high school diploma and you are not currently enrolled in any high school.
In today’s world, a high school diploma has moved from being a mere accolade to an absolute necessity. The skills that a person masters in the process of earning a high school diploma are skills that are used in almost every job. While there are jobs that do not require a high school diploma, it has become more and more obvious that a diploma will earn you many more comfortable opportunities than one could imagine. However, if you did not have the opportunity to receive your high school diploma, you can still seek a GED, which will offer you the same benefits that a high school diploma can.
There are many reasons to seek a GED. Besides the above stated, people seek GEDs for personal satisfaction, to increase knowledge, and to even go to college.
Adults who have a high school diploma are more likely to be considered for management positions than those without a high school diploma or GED. Also, adults with GEDs are paid more, have a higher quality of life and have longer life spans than those without a degree. This is because research scientists have found that people who have a higher income tend to live a life that is easier, and more free from stress that can cause problems such as heart attacks and stroke.
Another aspect that is linked to a higher quality of life is having a high sense of self. This means that you are confident and feel good about yourself and your abilities. Sometimes things happen in people’s lives that prevent them from doing what they want to do in life. Many times, people start high school with all intentions of finishing, but illness, personal and family problems get in the way, and students find themselves dropping out, sometimes just months before graduation. The results of this can be devastating; not only are jobs scarce for adults without degrees, but people feel embarrassed self conscious about their lack of education. The GED offers a way for people who have been in these situations to get a degree and feel the sense of accomplishment that comes with it.
Finally, many people seek a GED because they want to further their education. Universities and even community colleges often require a high school diploma or GED. This to make certain that a person has the base knowledge to continue with their education. If you have always wanted a certain career such as a nurse or doctor, but do not have a high school degree, a GED can satisfy that requirement.
No matter what reason you have for seeking a GED, the satisfaction of knowing that you have done something to improve your life will be work the hard work.
