GED HSED study methods
Are you stuck in a dead end job? Do you get passed up for jobs because you don’t have a high school diploma? Do you want to go to college? If you can answer yes to any of these questions, then you should consider getting your GED. This may have been something you have considered before, but it seemed hard to do or even insurmountable. However, if you know how to properly study for the GED, then the test should be much easier than you could imagine.
There are five different parts to the GED. They include math, science, social studies, language arts-writing, and language arts reading. Although the requirements vary from state to state, most states require that you pass each section with at least fifty to sixty percent of the questions correct. The GED consist of roughly two-hundred and fifty questions plus one essay questions. The questions are mostly multiple choice, besides the one essay. Scratch paper and a calculator are provided for the math portion of the GED.
There are many ways to study for the GED and it depends on the individual to find out what style works best for you. These ways include GED study books, GED prep classes, online study guides, and online prep classes. What method you choose to use to study for the GED solely depends on how you study and how much time you have.
GED study books are probably the most traditional form of study aids for the exam. Many different companies produce study books for the GED. These companies include Peterson’s, Cliff Notes, and the Educational Testing Center. These GED study books give the history of the GED, study tips, resources to seek more information to prepare for the test, practice tests with answers, and test taking tips. These are very similar to the study books available for a variety of standardized tests including the SAT.
GED prep classes are a very good way to prepare for the GED test. GED prep classes are offered at a variety of places including community colleges. The Educational testing center offers many of these GED prep classes and more information can be found by checking out their website. These classes charge a nominal fee, but if you feel that you will benefit by in person lessons, then it is well worth the money. There is also countless GED prep classes found online, some free, some for a fee. Of course, these GED prep classes can not teach all the knowledge that is needed to pass the GED exams, they focus more are test taking skills and strategies, as well as some overviews of the skills necessary to do well on the GED.
GED study guides are more condensed versions of study books and merely give an overview of study skills and test taking strategies. These GED study guides are available in paper format as well as online. These study guides are probably best for quick studying right before the exam.
No matter what method you choose to use in studying for the GED, the test takes a lot of hard work and preparation.
